Join us on September 21st from 8:00 – 10:00pm for our 10th year of bringing music and dance to the Gateway Mile! September’s band, The Dean’s List, will be bringing us a little classical dance!

Danny Dean is a native of Miami, Florida. His first experiences performing were with various contemporary church music ensembles. Later he discovered jazz and took his first music courses at Miami Dade College. In 2006 he earned a bachelor of music from Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee, with an emphasis in composition and arranging. His primary influences are Pat Metheny, Allan Holdsworth, Miles Davis, and Chet Baker. Danny and his wife, Andrea, moved to Elkhart, Indiana, in 2012.

Sonny Carreño has played drum set and percussion professionally for nearly forty years in a wide variety of styles, including Latin, R&B, rock/pop, country, jazz, and world beat. He performed with Sonny Side Up at the 2012 Elkhart Jazz Festival. He has also played locally with Lalo Cura, The Generation Gap, Los Dinosaurs, The Banana Slugs, Double Barrel Darrel, Danny Barber’s Jazz Cats, the Anna Montgomery Band, and the Elkhart Symphony. Sonny directed Goshen College’s jazz band, Lavender Jazz, for six years. He has served as an adjudicator and a guest clinician in Texas, Indiana, and Ohio. A graduate of Texas State University with a degree in music education, Sonny taught band at Victoria (Texas) High School for five years.
